FATHER DIVINE'S Telegram to President Johnson, Congratulating Him on His Civil Rights Speech to
Congress and the Nation and the President's reply

March 17, 1965

Lyndon B. Johnson
President of the United States
The White House
Washington, D. C.

I highly commend you on your wonderful speech before the joint session of Congress. It is with profound gratitude I have witnessed this great Ship of State steered into a new world of unity and dignity for all mankind. If this "So great a people" will now stand together just as Americans in the Unity of Spirit, of Mind, of Aim and of Purpose, there is nothing that can prevent the establishment of a Universal Utopian Democracy in which all men, everywhere, shall enjoy the reality of Life, Liberty and Happiness. May I extend MY Blessings as MY Life to you in this effort.

Rev. M. J. DIVINE, Ms. D., D. D.
