FATHER DIVINE and Miss Mary Light
Returning from a Righteous Government Forum that filled the 63rd Street Auditorium to overflow Wednesday, August 28, FATHER arrived at His New York City headquarters about midnight to serve a late night banquet. Here thousands of the True and the Faithful who awaited His personal coming in the auditorium and dining hall and even in the street, greeted Him with the demonstration of love and devotion that only the Presence of God in his own tabernacle could produce they would have waited all night if necessary to catch a glimpse of that beloved Holy Body recognized by 22 million as the Body of GOD.
On this occasion FATHER sat for a long while and poured HIS Holy Love while many praised HIM. At length HE sang:
Righteousness and Justice, Righteousness and truth, etc.
Truth shall to outlast them all.
When the worlds on fire, this Justice and Truth shall outlast them all.
Concluding with another song after which HE spoke, HE continued with the familiar words HE had first sung through Mother:
I come I come, I come, I come,
To bring you the message that I have heard,
Come one, come all, come all in one!
The Lord has come, the Lord has come,
Oh glory to his name, etc.
FATHER DIVINE speaks as follows:
Peace Everyone!
Here we are again whatsoever that means! It be nothing less than what we sung. The words we have sung and what we shall sing in making this declaration known, God is a living reality among the children of men! It is indeed wonderful! I cannot speak in words after the manner of men, sufficient to explain the significance of your simple recognition of God's presence. The very recognition dispels adverse conditions in every adverse and undesirable tendency, especially when you get this recognition in you. It is written,
"Think not to say within yourselves who shall ascend up into heaven to bring Christ down from above, or who will descend into the deep, (in the grave) to bring Christ up again from the dead; but what says it, the Word is nigh thee even in your mouth and in your heart, and if you will believe in your heart and confess with your mouth you shall be saved."
This recognition within, it must actually be quickened within your innermost self. The very depths of your soul must be aroused. Your heart must know your GOD.
Theoretically, men of Christendom since the early days of Christendom have been knowing Christ to be the son of God. I say theoretically through your theory, through the doctrines and the teaching of the Christian religion, men have known from their early existence Christ was Jesus and Jesus is Christ. They have been taught it, but knowing it merely theoretically, which is to say mentally, is not sufficient. You must know it in your heart and believe it within. When this knowledge shall have been injected or awakened therein and the recognition comes, then and there it is finished, it is done. Now is not that Wonderful?
It is such a privilege to realize, such a recognition in the heart will dispel all dark clouds of human tendencies, all human fancies and all human pleasures. By so doing and by so being purged, you will become to be new creatures. Oh it is such a privilege to become new creatures by renewing of your mind, by changing your Adamic state of consciousness for the Christ consciousness completely; living in the recognition of God's presence as a living reality, and becoming to be new creatures. Because of this the nations of the earth are stirred. They are marveling at this recognition that has begotten you into a lively hope, a hope that is incorruptible, a hope that is undefiled, a hope that fadeth not away. Now is not that wonderful? To think of being begotten into a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, not merely as an individual person but as a principal that moves all creation. By the resurrection in the hearts and lives of all that believe it, they all shall receive the same.
There are so many points for consideration, I could convey that it is not necessary on me to say, as you all understand, but the Spirit of MY Presence will rise at times and will arouse your understanding, will arouse and stir up your minds and cause you to be filled with enthusiasm, and every expression of the mental and spiritual Resurrection of the expression of Christ in your consideration. Remember, the resurrection of Jesus as a reality, was a reality for those that are classed as materialists, those that did not believe and would not believe unless they could and would see the person of Jesus. But to those of you that can and will believe sincerely without observing the person of Jesus, Christ in you will be resurrected as an outward expression, and as your conscious conviction and realization have been established. The resurrection of Christ in the person of Jesus, as an individual resurrection, in the personal expression of the resurrection of Jesus. He was parably speaking of the universal resurrection of Christ in millions.
I heard Christendom say,
"I know he has risen, for he has risen in my soul."
This awakening, when you are awakened from the within and express it to the without, believing sincerely in your heart and not merely in your mind, the reaction of your conscious conviction and of your sincere belief, your thoughts will cause a reaction of an expression to take place, causing you to think and act different from the way you have been acting. It will cause you to become to be new creatures, and so you are. Now is not that wonderful?
When I look over the masses in these audiences and observed the peace, the poises, the calm, the spirit of devotedness of one and all expressed, I am impressed and encouraged to say, a great change has actually taken place since I came! What and who would get such audiences together like this and keep them all night long? This is not one day, nor two only, but 365 days to the year, and every once in a while 366 and yet I'm not telling them to do it. I cannot keep them away! Then I say, a change has come! Therefore you can say," It's a great change since I had been born." The very desire for those things you used to do, has been taken away. You do not even desire to do those things. You are living in a new world and a new environment completely, becoming to be new creatures scientifically, and in actions you are expressing the Newness of God's presence as it is reflected. I think I had better stop.
The blessings of God are flowing so free apparently, there is not room to receive them. Now is not that wonderful! Just think of millions and millions of sincere believers contacting this identical expression this evening; thinking in harmony, thinking harmoniously, and becoming to be new creatures by thinking harmoniously together. Now is not that wonderful! All adverse and undesirable conditions will eventually be completely eradicated and dispelled, for the environment in which you are now living, and the atmosphere, will cease to express negation, negative thinking, negative deeds. and negative actions. Therefore such expressions will eventually have no longer in existence among us. In my name ye shall cast out the d-v-ls -- other fellows. We are casting out all adverse and undesirable expressions. After a while undesirable and negative expression, especially if they are antagonistic, they will have no longer in existence among us.
I fill and thrill your heart, your soul, your body and your minds with the spirit of enthusiasm, of thanksgiving and merriness until there will be no more space nor place for the negative. It is indeed wonderful! As I said some time ago, I will fill the atmosphere with the spirit of my positiveness from the Infiniteness of the Infinite, until there will be no more space nor place for you to think negatively. It is indeed wonderful! These positive thoughts shall shoot through the mental and spiritual atmosphere and you will not have time to think as you desire to think. I will scatter, and eventually dispel, all negative thinking and all negative thoughts. When you start to think something negative and something antagonistic, I will dispel it. I will make you forget it. Now is not that wonderful! The adversary has had dominion long enough. The adversary has been scattering your thoughts and perverting them. The adversary has also been causing your thoughts and your ideas to be bewildered. It is indeed wonderful! But I will cause the adversary's thoughts and expressions to be bewildered. I will not allow him to think through you. I will fill your mind with thoughts of positiveness, thoughts of righteousness, thoughts of justice and of truth until you will not have space nor place to think of the negative and allow negation to think through you. Now is not that wonderful!
When you are thinking on God vividly, according to the original scripture,
"In perfect Peace I will keep thee whose mind is stayed on ME"
your body cannot reincarnate, and cannot conceive, and reconceive negative thoughts that are currently conveyed from one to another, when you keep your mind stayed on ME. It is evidentially known, you cannot be kept in perfect peace, I could not keep you in perfect peace if all negative thoughts were allowed to enter and have dominion, as they had been having. If negative thoughts were allowed to enter and have free access in your mentality, it would be a matter of impossibility for you to be in perfect peace continually. Is not that wonderful! But the mystery is, that your minds will be stayed on Christ so vividly, and on the positive, until the negative will have no space or place where it can enter. Therefore it would not have an existence in you.
That is why you can forget about everything when you come around me. That is to say, you forget about all of that which is termed sorrow, trials and trouble, worries, and adverse and undesirable conditions. You forgot about them, and they disappear into their nothingness from whence they came, while thinking and keeping your mind stayed on me. Just think of the beauty of the glory of God as it is revealed, the blessings of God being manifested among you. Thinking on these things and continuing to visualize greater and better, as the optimists do, looking forward to something better tomorrow for you, you will not have time to utilize your energy and your mentality in thinking in and along negative lines.
Oh how beautiful it is to dwell unity, the unity of the Spirit of God, of His mind, of His aim, and of His purpose, not only in words but in deeds and actions, by bringing your body into subjection to serve him. I thank you.
When father concluded speaking, again took a seat, and with that smile in his eyes that makes the heart leap with joy said, "let your testimonies role". Testimonies of praise and thanksgiving did roll, giving all the power, glory, and honor to God FATHER DIVINE for his marvelous works.

This wonderful message came forth after one had testified that the person known to the world as her mother, had recently died, after claiming to be a follower of FATHER DIVINE for two or three years. When she was notified by the so-called family, she refused to attend the funeral she said, and they became abusive, asking if she was still going to believe in FATHER DIVINE after such a result. Her reply had been that he was God Almighty and that she believed he him regardless of any such occurrence. She stated that she and all of the true and faithful knew that such a result could only come from not living exactly according to the Gospel.
Though it was nearly 3 AM, at the conclusion of the testimony FATHER spoke the following words that will stand when rolling years shall cease to move -- firstly singing:
"If you live the life of Christ your savior,
You will be like him, you will be like him, etc.,
You will always be both true and faithful,
You will be like him, etc."
FATHER DIVINE speaks as follows:
Peace everyone! I rise at this time to say, those of you that know the Truth and live in Truth, the Truth will set you free.
"The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life."
It is written,
"Let all men be liars., but let God be true".
If you live the life of Christ your savior, you will be like him. Evangelical life as I said today means living according to the life and teaching of Christ. If a person would ask you, what do you mean by living evangelical? Tell them it means living exactly as Jesus lived as a man , and as Mary lived before Jesus was born as a woman, the outstanding sample and the example to show you just the way perfection can be attained. The body called Mary could not bring forth that mental and spiritual conception of the Holy One to fruition saving by living exactly as she was when she conceived me and he it.
When she conceived that mental and spiritual conception of the Holy Ghost, and the idea that was given Her by the Angel, saying she should bring forth a man child, that mental and spiritual conception was conceived in her consideration while she was virtuous, and a virgin. If she lived it and I brought forth the body called Jesus to fruition, and gave deliverance to the Firstborn and the Perfect among the inhabitants of the earth, this was a sample and example of how men and women should live. By living exactly as Mary did before Jesus was born, and living exactly as Jesus did after he was born, the two examples both male and female, when this shall have been accomplished in the fullness, according to the Gospel otherwise, then and there you will live and not die.
It is written, to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. "In Perfect Peace," I said a while ago, "I'll keep thee whose mind is stayed on me me." These are hard sayings but yet they are true. The word of God must be lived up to and you must allow the word of God to live harmoniously in you and do exactly what it bids you do. It reads also in the same chapter with the verse quoted, the foregoing quotation,
"If ye live after the flesh ye shall die but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live."
These are the words of God, sent through the apostle Paul as a message to the children of men. It has been conveyed to others, as well as to them to whom it was directly given at that at the time. It still remains the same for this dispensation, for this generation,
"If ye live after the flesh he shall die, but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live."
Now the word evangelical, as was in part the discussion or interview this morning, someone has said from time to time, "I live and Evangelical life .I am living evangelically with my sister or my husband, or brother and the question was, "Well what do you mean by evangelical?" They say, "Well you get the dictionary and find out," Or something of that sort. If you go before a judge and he should ask you that question, you could and should justifiably answer the question by telling him just what it means, regardless of whether he understands what it means, or what you mean, or not.
Now many things may mean one thing, but those that do not know what the word means, at times they may think another. Therefore when a judge asks the question, "What do you mean by evangelical? He is not speaking about he does not know what the actual word evangelical means, but he is asking you what do you mean by evangelical? Therefore answer the question intelligently, harmoniously yet scientifically, and evangelically. And that is according to the scripture! Answer, according to the scripture, according to the teaching of Jesus, according to the life of Jesus, according to the nature of Jesus and according to the mind of Jesus. That is Evangelical! Hence, when the question comes forth for consideration, if there be a test, or testable expressions, take it for consideration, what would Jesus say or do on such an occasion or in such a question, when such a question is put before you. Now what would Jesus do concerning the same? What would Jesus in the person that was on earth 1900 years ago, do and what would he say if such a question were put to you? That should be your consideration.
Now the question has been and has been shown, the evangelical right means the life of Christ live in the body called Jesus and the life that Jesus lived in the name called Christ. That two were one, and one was two! It is indeed wonderful! When Jesus was question concerning certain things, He answer the questions and left them on record as a sample and example. When Jesus had the test that you all are having apparently, the question was put before him from time to time, and he spoke scientifically and yet intelligently, that man could not criticize Him justifiably. It is indeed wonderful!
One came on one occasion said, "Thy mother and thy brother want Thee out there or are looking for Thee or words to that effect. What said Jesus as an angelic expression and as an evangelical expression?
"Who is my mother and who are my brethren and my sisters? They that do the will of my father."
That was an evangelical expression. It was according to the Gospel and still remains the same. When you live exactly according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and according to his teaching and according to his life in the fullness, you will act like him.
"I am the way the truth and the life"
Now it is written,
"IAM the way the truth and the life no man cometh to the father but by me."
These are hard sayings, but yet they are true. This is this is exactly what you must do, come through the exact way Jesus came, producing the characteristics, and the nature, of the Body called Jesus, and bringing it to fruition in your system and by so doing you will become to me new creatures in reality! You will not merely be saying, I am a new creature but you will have new characteristics, new dispositions, a new nature completely. Hence you will be a new creature in reality and that is Evangelical.
Now that is the mystery! I stress it vividly for your consideration that you might know, if a person dies as you said she did you may know she has not been in this truth. Look over the matter and see if she lived exactly, as far as you can remember her and understand according to Jesus Teaching, according to His Life, according to His Disposition, according to His Words, according to His Deeds, according to His Mind and according to His Actions. If you study the life of any individual that makes a failure, you can see plainly someplace, somewhere, and somehow, that person has not lived according to the Gospel. These may be hard sayings, you may not feel like saying it or feel like thinking it, but yet it is true.
"I am the way the truth and the light says He no man cometh to the Father, I could say and you can say to the Fathership degree, but by Me." Now you must come to the light and the teaching of Jesus. Whether you think about me as an individual or as a person or not, it is immaterial to me but maybe the court relied on the teaching of the body called Jesus. This shell had been accomplished wholeheartedly and complete, you will be with ME. This is Evangelical! And nothing else can be evangelical in reality, saving that which is exactly according to the life and teaching of the body called Jesus. I did not say the Teaching only, but I said the Life and the Teaching. Now is not that wonderful?
The teaching of Jesus has stirred the creation, for it was contrary to the teaching of men. It was to the extreme reverse to their versions, their dispositions, their ideas, and to their opinions. That is why Jesus was crucified. They said, "By our law he should die". He said the same thing you may someday say "ye are from beneath, I Am from above". Why? Because Jesus did not look upon himself as coming from the dust he looked upon himself as being the Son or Child of God, not the Child of GOD in himself, some part, some breath, or something like that being the Child of GOD, but he looked upon himself, his physical body, as being the child of God. Because of such a recognition and such a substantiated state of expression, he gained the victory over limitations and conquered death and came out of the grave, not in a self exalted way, but denying Himself according to the flesh that He might recognize God as his FATHER according to the Spirit, and observe Himself as GOD"S Son and not the son of the children of men.
GOD is your FATHER with or without a Body, and you never had another. The mystery, as I was speaking to a party the other day ,was and still is, GOD was Jesus' FATHER even as the son is the father of his father scientifically, if you can discern it. It is indeed wonderful! As I explained it, I said to this man, I said "Whether you are conscious of it or not, that which is you, that something that is called you, that Life's energy and that something that made and formed you, is the same one that made and formed that one that was called your father. Therefore you and your father are one, even as Jesus said. Physically you and your father are one, I mean the natural father and his son are one. Even though they do not know it, they are one when the work is done." It is indeed Wonderful! "Let there be no division among you." Refuse to allow your thoughts, your mind,and your human divided ideas and opinions, to separate you from your own understanding and from the unity of your being, the reality of yourself that was the Maker and Creator of your physical body, for it was your FATHER and your FATHER is you.When it is materialized and transmitted into mater-like form, your physical body is the same that was the Maker of your father, that Life's energy, the electrons of electricity that is within you, transmitted from one to the other.
I will not go further this morning. Now this is the mystery of how the Wisdom of GOD cometh upon you. It cometh when you shall have relaxed your conscious mentality, when you shall have stilled yourselves as individuals and allowed GOD to Speak within you. Now at this time of the morning, about three o'clock, the conscious thinking minds that may be negative, consciously they may be asleep. Therefore the Spirit of GOD is active, and you do not have so many conflicts and so many conflictions from the inspiration of the Spirit. It is indeed Wonderful! That is why the Spirit works so Wonderfully, early in the morning. Antagonistic thoughts and conflicting thoughts that are being sent out consciously, they cannot work so effectively when the conscious minds of individuals are sleeping.
Now look at you! (A great shout from thousands was the response.) You all would stay here all night if I would say so. I will not detain you much longer, not very much longer, I will soon let you go to your respective places to relax your physical bodies, but I thought I would convey that thought to you Personally. I did not hear about this experience of the last speaker, and the one that was called her mother. I do not or did not bear record of it Personally, but as I say, I want you to be substantiated in Faith and unshaken in confidence, and weigh and measure every expression, every thought, and every idea and opinion that presents itself, and see if it measures up to the Life and Teaching of Christ that was in the Body called Jesus, completely. If it does, you will find that individual having victory over sickness and diseases, over sorrow, over pain, and over death.
Now I hope for your own sake you will take these Thoughts to consideration, for it is not just this day, or just yesterday humanly speaking that this Light of Understanding has been given. The song we were singing, a little while ago, I recall when the Message was given to Mother just before the World War. Around nineteen-thirteen or the early part of nineteen fourteen, She went to Washington carrying that Message from the identical Personal expression from this identical Peace Mission, from this Work, "The Lord Has Come." It first came to Her by Inspiration, "The King Has Come," transposed to "The Lord Had Come, Oh Praise His Holy Name!" It was a warning to the Nation just about the time the War was declared and just before,
"I Come, I Come,
To bring you this Message of Love,
Come one, Come all,Come all in one."
I AM saying that to say this! Through many years, humanly speaking after the manner of men, for at least thirty or forty years among men, functioning from this angle of expression, many different conflicts have arisen in opposition to this Fundamental, but as the Song has long since said,
"The kingdoms will rise and wane, but the Church of Christ constant shall remain."
It is indeed Wonderful!
I have had hundreds and thousands I venture to say, almost, that have been high teachers and preachers, and prophets, rise in opposition to this Fundamental, criticizing MY Teaching and MY Light and MY Understanding as it is given, and have cut themselves off the stage of action by fighting against the Fundamental and through criticism, but the Church of this Truth still remains. I can recall from years back, so many that ran in collision with this identical Message. It was apparently insignificant, more at that time than it apparently is now, as far as the outward expression of it is discerned. At that time there were a very limited number openly manifesting and declaring ME as they are today, but this identical expression, and the identical version and the testimony of all these were the same!
Now I AM Saying that for your consideration, that you might weigh everything on the Scale of Justice. If one is a failure, consider, and prove yourself a workman by clearing the way to convince yourself that the individual was not what he or she should be, and not condemn the Teaching of Christ! I thank you!
