Prior to FATHER DIVINE'S sermon, Mrs. Ethel Taylor, Dir. of Nursing Service, Philadelphia. Chapter of the Red Cross and Mr. Williams soliciting names to prohibit opening a saloon in the vicinity spoke and FATHER enlarged on both speeches:)
PEACE, EVERYONE! Good Health, Good Will, a Good Appetite, Good Manners, Good Behavior, All Success and All Prosperity! Life, Liberty and the Reality of Happiness! These and all other blessings to you I bring that you may come into possession of them even as others have.
At this particular instance I have arisen to say, it is good to be here and so much better to realize, whatsoever a man soweth, that is what he shall also reap. And again I wish to say, that which you visualize, you tend to materialize. If you will let this salutation be stamped in your memory and consider it and stressfully remember it by harmonization and by sympathizing with it, you will be partakers of that of which I have spoken into consideration.
I would like to say again, I have long since declared and I re-declare the same: "The Spirit of the consciousness of the Presence of GOD is the Source of all Supply and it will satisfy every good desire."
If you can make yourselves conscious of GOD'S Actual PRESENCE I mean of GOD'S PRESENCE in action mentally, spiritually and physically everything will be all right with you! Matters will be adjusted satisfactorily and your problems will be solved once and forever, for GOD is the solver of all problems and the adjuster of all matters!
A little while ago when one of our honored speakers was speaking Mrs. Taylor I thought of how I sent out to the world many years ago a thought of what we would do as a Universal Movement as humane workers for the benefit of all humanity and that was and it is the same today humanity and that was and it is the same today to rescue the perishing and care for the dying and live not for ourselves alone, for as I have said of a very recent date, if you live for yourself alone, you will not have long to live and it does not take very much for you; therefore, you will have enough to last you your lifetime just a very small amount! But if you take cognizance of MY Message in the actuated words of expression you will reason by sight and by what you can see what I AM actually telling you, and you will endeavor to copy after the fashion I have shown you and AM showing you on the mount of this high light of our spiritual civilization in which we are now living. The Gospel of CHRIST, as it reads concerning the Gospel of CHRIST, it tells you:
'HIS Name shall be called Immanuel, being interpreted, GOD is with us!'
If I can convince you of GOD'S omnipresence and can convince you effectively of GOD'S ever Presence, I have solved your every problem! Why? Because god is the great creator! GOD is the author and the finisher! God is the beginning and the end! GOD is the first and last, and if you can be conscious of GOD'S actual Presence, matters are solved automatically! In other words, problems are solved and matters are adjusted satisfactorily!
For this cause we endeavor to live a life that will exemplify the true life of Judaism, of Christianity, of Americanism, of Democracy and of Brotherhood as synonymous! The true life of each and all of these as explained or mentioned whichever, is the kind of Life we all want to live! I AM not talking about the false life of Judaism! I AM not speaking of the false life of Christianity! I AM not speaking of the false life of Americanism! I AM not speaking of the false life of Democracy, of Brotherhood nor any of the other expressions of life that we have united and amalgamated to bring out the Perfect Picture! Aren't you glad! It takes All of the Good of not only these expression of Religion, Sociality and Patriotism and Democracy in Action, but it takes All of the good from all of the religions and from all society of all creation to bring out the perfect man! Aren't you glad!
And that is what we are exemplifying! That is what we are endeavoring to bring out and depict to you so vividly and so explicitly, you will be able to see the perfect picture and reproduce it characteristically and dispositionally until you will live soberly, righteously, honestly and be honest in deeds and actions and godly in every activity! That is what I am doing in heaven on earth among you today!
A righteous nation is rising, rich! Not necessarily rich in monetary means of exchange, but you can get a-plenty of that too! You do not have to go around soliciting, begging nor stealing, for I will cause you to be successful, prosperous, healthy and happy and will give you the Victory over poverty, lacks, wants and limitations!
Then I say, live in this recognition and be in this number if you wish to -- the number of which Abraham Lincoln mentioned when he said,
'That this whole nation under GOD might have a New Birth of Freedom!'
They had been getting converted, going to church, dying and going to heaven all along, before then, but he caught the glimpse of the mystery and he sought it sincerely that the nation would have the kind of Freedom that only GOD could give them! He tried to give those of the slaveric people a physical freedom, in the which he apparently gave them but he knew that which he apparently gave, but he knew that that would not suffice! That would not satisfy! That was not sufficient; but he wanted the whole nation, not only those of the slaveric people, not only those, I might say, of the Federal slaves, but he wanted the whole nation to have a New Birth of Freedom -- to be born out of that Adamic state of consciousness, out of isms! Even if he was not conscious of it, that was what he was calling for! -- to be born out of racism, one of the worst isms that ever was! One of the most deadly poisonous isms that has ever been established; but I AM giving you that Birth now -- giving you that Birth of Freedom from Racism, from that Deadly Poisonous Serpent! It spits its poison in every direction! Talking about "I am of this race and I am of that race and I am the other race!"
But our Constitution called for, by our inscription inscribed on our coin, that we might be one, e pluribus unum! Aren't you glad! Therefore, those who wish to rise in opposition to what I Am saying, even to MY thoughts, you are rising against the commonwealth of the universe and it is charged with the magnetic current of GOD'S infiniteness -- with atomic energy filled with electricity! You get a shock if you don't get off of it! Aren't you glad! I AM talking about those of you who know ME -- I know you are glad! Why? Because those who rise in opposition mentally or spiritually, they are getting and rising against the Commonwealth of the universe; and I AM not talking about the Commonwealth of the State of Pennsylvania, but I AM talking about the commonwealth of the universe, charged with the magnetic current of GOD'S infiniteness and its atomic energy charged with electricity!
Then I say, believe thou this and if you are in trouble, from this angle of expression -- I mean from the omnipotent One from all omnipotence -- you heard of a voice saying through the scripture:
'All Power is given to Me in Heaven and in Earth!'That must have been some of that which transcends the Atomic Energy! Why? Because it was filled with the Spirit of GOD'S Infiniteness and Charged with the Electricity of the Almighty!
That is why CHRIST in the Son-ship Degree could say that and could speak and move to that end and none could hinder Him! The same Spirit is speaking today! GOD is with you! GOD is right here now, giving this whole nation a New Birth of Freedom out of that cursed Racism, out of Nationalism, out of sectarianism, out of all of the isms, but the worst ism of all of the isms and the most poisonous serpent, prejudice, coming forth from racism, is the most poisonous ism that could be imagined!
Then I say, let us live in this Recognition and build upon this foundation and continue to be prepared as afore said, to rescue the perishing and care for the dying by being evangelically patriotic and expressing humanity and sympathy and love and compassion and being democratic and evangelical from every angel expressible and GOD in all omnipotence will be with you and will take you safely through and will help you and qualify you, in not only to be experienced nurses and first aid nurses, but to be interns, and any information you desire, it is at your disposal!
I say, GOD is omniscient! That is why GOD is bringing to you the different representatives of civic, social and federal government to represent Himself in the humane work as well as that of your spiritual devotional service to man and to GOD!
Then I say, these courses that Mrs. Taylor mentioned, if any of you desire to take them up, you are welcome to do so, it being first-hand information for the occasion, so if any emergency would occur, to qualify yourself to meet whatsoever issue may come and be ready to help those who stand in need!
Now I do not wish to bore you, but I will say a word or two further for your consideration. Those who know the doctrine of FATHER DIVINE, by seeing the living epistles of MY doctrine and reading it as they are living epistles to be seen and read by men, they know I do not approve of intoxicating liquors! They know I do not approve of profanity and obscenity! They know I approve of honesty, of competence and of truth and they knew I have lifted you to these standards of perfection lastly mentioned, and they know I have made you second to none in the way of honesty, of competence and of truth!. . . . .
Then I say, live in this recognition and build upon this foundation. Therefore, we do not tolerate intoxicating liquors, especially among the young people that are trying to live decently, respectfully, modest and moral in every way. That is the reason for the gentleman here not desiring a saloon where they sell intoxicating liquors right around in this vicinity near this church and in the community where people are trying to live soberly, righteously and godly and where they are trying to have devotional services undisturbed and unmolested by the drunks and those of the profane and obscene world! Not only so, but they want -- he himself and other representatives in this community want this community to remain a moral and respectable -- in other words, we want it more moral and more modest and more respectable than what it really is today!
This church here has a gymnasium, bowling alley and class room where children and adults are taught alike to be modest and respectable and even enjoy wholesome and moral, modest sports; but we do not want those who would try to profane us, those who would try to lower the morals of the young boys and young girls coming into these playhouses and houses of worship we have in this community, not only this one, but all others that are run by other churches and organizations or synagogues; we want the expression of righteousness, of Truth and of justice, of modesty and of morality and the standard of it to be lifted as a sample and as an example for others in other communities. Therefore, you cannot blame the gentleman. No doubt he may have little children.
(As FATHER turns to Mr. Williams, he in turn answers:)
Mr. Williams: No, they are grown. I am thinking of other peoples' children. I had children once.
(FATHER continues:)
And others' children. But even though as it has been said, he is thinking of others' children, I AM thinking of others' children too, because I have no children as a natural Person, but you all are my children! Therefore, we all wish to look not only upon our own good nor upon our own things, but look upon the things of others and try to keep our young boys and young girls away from that which would tend to lead them astray and cause them to lose control of themselves by influencing them in the negative direction.
When you use drugs and alcoholic beverages that will cause you to be drunken and lose control of yourself, it is plain to see, such as that should not be, because it is something that takes a hold of a man, even grownups at times, and cause them to do things violently and destructively all because of the alcohol or drugs under which they are controlled.
So then I say, MY fellow citizens, hearers, members and friends, those of you who have heard this, and if you desire to co-operate, you are welcome to do so, for that which is done for righteousness' sake, not just for yourselves alone, but for righteousness' sake for the good of all mankind, you may rest assured you cannot lose, but will be blessed of man and blessed of GOD. I thank you.
