FATHER DIVINE

FATHER DIVINE

Shortly after the Holy Communion Service, Dr. and Mrs. John P. Turner and several other guests accompanied FATHER and MOTHER into the Office Study to pay their respects before leaving and during the course of the informal conversation, Mrs. Turner was expressing her deep appreciation of FATHER'S profound Work and Mission, saying that ever since FATHER appeared Personally in the Ball Park here in Philadelphia, upon the request of the City's officials, she had been a follower of FATHER and a staunch advocate of HIS Principles. It was at this point in the conversation that Dr. Turner gave these remarks, as he has done on many occasions, concerning what FATHER and HIS DIVINE GUIDANCE has meant and still means to him in his profession and everyday activities. (Dr. Turner speaks as follows:)

Yes, she (Mrs. Turner) has been a Follower- I mean, a True Follower ever since! I get it morning, noon and night, and I take it too! (Merriment resounds, then FATHER says, with a smile: "Well, I hope it is a Blessing.")

Dr. Turner (firmly): It is a Blessing, FATHER. YOU know, my job is to patch up bodies and to give pills and try to make people straight, and try to make the body well; because people can't think straight or live straight when they are sick. They can't do right when they are sick- so it is my job to keep them in the straight and narrow path! And I want to tell YOU this: the Spirit of FATHER goes with me when I go in the sick room and feel the pulse; when I go in the operating room and when I pick up the knife to cut, I ask for Divine Guidance. I ask FATHER to help me that I do not cut wrong; that I write the right prescriptions; that I do the right thing to bring back to health that person whose loved ones are so eager to have them come back to them.

And I want to tell you that it is my daily and nightly prayer that YOU, FATHER, would help me. YOU have helped me more than I could ever tell and my "helpmate" helps me, to remind me of YOU, since 1939 in the Ball Park. I like baseball; so that is a lovely association.
