"In Reference to the Outrages of Mass Murder in this Country,
If the Officials Who Are in Authority Will Not Protest it Themselves . . .
it Is Plain to See and Know
They Are Not Worthy of Filling Official Duty under this Democracy!"

Remarks of FATHER DIVINE:

"Again I wish to say, as I mentioned in part in reference to the outrages of mass murder in this country, where they will organize themselves to commit the crime of lynching, yea, the crimes of lynching; for as a rule it is more than mere lynching almost every lynching that takes place it is also a kidnapping and lynching combined therefore those who commit the crimes of lynching are not American citizens.

"They may have been born in America, a good many of them, but they are not American citizens and those who are in authority who will not openly denounce it and condemn it to the general public, they themselves are automatically endorsing it. They must take a stand against it! So long as they will not say anything, if a man or five or six men or a dozen or more organize themselves together and commit such a crime and such crimes combined a complication of crimes if they do not say anything about it, it is evidently known they are not worthy of filling official duty under this democracy; for they are allowing the outlaws to undermine the constitution and its Amendments, the foundation upon which we are standing.

"These may be hard sayings, but yet they are true! From now, hence forth and forever, My hearers, coworkers and followers and friends here and elsewhere, wheresoever you go and wheresoever you have been, if the officials who are in authority will not protest it themselves, as well as the laities, and openly denounce it, it is plain to see and know they are not worthy of filling official duty under this democracy!"
